- Applications are now open for the newly launched editorial internship program until December 6th
- Successful applicant will work across red carpets, product launches, live shows and more over the course of a four‑month long program in Los Angeles
Los Angeles – November 15, 2021: Getty Images, a world leader in visual communications, in partnership with Crown + Conquer, an independent creative agency working with top brands, today announced a first‑of‑its‑kind editorial internship program. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from the world’s leading entertainment photographers, editorial team and brand experts.
Leveraging Getty Images’ editorial and photographic expertise as well as Crown + Conquer’s industry experience and brand relationships, the intern will have the opportunity to photograph a range of editorial and commercial assignments. These will include events organized by Crown + Conquer on behalf of their clients, but also red carpet events, celebrity parties, product launches, live shows and studio portraits. The intern will also receive mentorship from Getty Images staff, and networking opportunities will be facilitated by both partners.
Applicants must be 18 years or older at the time of application, based in Los Angeles and have access to a car to facilitate transportation to events. They must also be passionate about storytelling, content creation and pop culture, although no professional portfolio or experience is required. While the internship is open to all applicants, Getty Images and Crown + Conquer recognize that people of color and those with intersectional identities are underrepresented in photography and are particularly encouraged to apply. The application period will close on December 6, 2021, and the successful applicant will be notified in early January 2022.
Speaking about the internship, Getty Images’ VP of Global Entertainment, Kirstin Benson says: “This is an incredible opportunity, both for an aspiring photographer to gain experience and expertise, but also for Getty Images as we get to be directly involved in shaping the next generation of talent. We are thrilled to be partnering with Crown + Conquer to provide this unique mentorship experience, as well as enhance the visual narrative both in front of and behind the lens.”
“Simply put, creators from marginalized communities do not have the same access to brand and high‑profile editorial gigs,” said April McDaniel, Founder, Crown + Conquer. “But we can—and will—change that, for the benefit of Black, Latinx, female‑identifying, non‑binary and other historically underrepresented photographers and creators. This first internship is just the beginning; We’re aiming to permanently change the landscape of the content industry.”
“As Henri Cartier‑Bresson once said, ‘Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst.’ Which is to say that I’m thrilled that we will be able to give someone the opportunity to not only shoot their first 10,000 photographs, but learn, hone their skills and then elevate themselves to photograph No. 10,001 and beyond,” said Neilson Barnard, Senior Director of Entertainment Photography for the Americas, Getty Images.
The successful intern will work as part of Getty Images’ editorial entertainment team, reporting directly to Barnard, and will be trained on all facets of the editorial photography business, including:
- Creating editorial content (photography and videography),
- Assigning events and client relations,
- Staffing the picture desk, as well as video and field editing,
- Using robotics and remote cameras,
- Major event production, and more.
Upon successful completion of the four‑month internship at the end of April 2022, the intern will be:
- Guaranteed portfolio and media placement,
- Provided with a professional recommendation from Getty Images,
- Equipped with a full equipment “kit” to continue honing and practicing their craft,
- Added to Getty Images’ “preferred provider” list and/or considered for a staff position (if available and applicable).
