Partnership to include 12‑month development programme and two paid Getty Images internships, offering hands‑on training, professional mentorship and real‑world experience for photographers entering the media industry.
London ‑ 26 March 2026: Getty Images, a preeminent global visual content creator and marketplace, has partnered with BCOMS (The Black Collective of Media in Sport) and Nikon to launch a comprehensive, sustained initiative supporting emerging photographers into the media industry.
The initiative will launch with the Media Academy, a year‑long programme designed to equip editorial creators from underrepresented communities with the practical skills, industry insight and professional connections needed to build a career in media. Twelve participants will have access to monthly masterclasses, on‑the‑job learning opportunities and mentorship from Getty Images’ award‑winning photographers, videographers, editors and content specialists across News, Sport and Entertainment.
Emerging creators will then have the opportunity to apply for two paid Getty Images internships, where successful applicants will work alongside the company’s world‑class content teams, gaining first‑hand experience on editorial and commercial assignments in addition to mentorship and networking opportunities. Nikon will provide participants in both phases of the initiative with the latest in professional image‑making equipment, ensuring they have the creative tools to aid their full potential.
“We’re proud to partner with BCOMS and Nikon to support emerging talent and help unlock meaningful career pathways in the media,” said Paul Gilham, Senior Director of Sports Content at Getty Images. “With the Media Academy and internship development opportunities we’re supporting a new generation of visual storytellers who will shape the future of the industry.”
“We’re incredibly excited to be working with Getty Images and Nikon on this initiative, which we believe will be a life‑changing experience for participants,” said Jack Badu, Programme Manager at BCOMS. “Our unwavering commitment is to empower each participant with the confidence, expertise, and network they need to thrive in media and photography. We hope the programme and internships will be pivotal turning points in their careers, opening doors they may have only dreamed of.”
Heidi Jales, Manager Marketing Communications at Nikon Europe, says: “We are committed to empowering the next generation of creators with the skills, knowledge and tools needed to transform passion into a thriving career, so we are thrilled to collaborate with Getty Images and BCOMS on this groundbreaking initiative.”
The Media Academy programme will commence March 2026 and will be facilitated by BCOMS. The paid internships will launch following competitive selection in 2027.
