GETTY IMAGES ANNOUNCES THE RECIPIENTS OF ITS $40,000 INCLUSION SCHOLARSHIPS

London — 23 June, 2021: Getty Images, a world leader in visual communications, today announced the recipients of its Inclusion Scholarships. Now in its second year, the Inclusion Scholarships, totaling US$40,000, support emerging editorial talent within underrepresented groups, offering aspiring photojournalists the creative means and solutions to pursue education that will enable careers within the industry.

Getty Images partnered with specialist organizations Women PhotographNational Association of Black JournalistsAsian American Journalists Association, and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists to award four scholarship grants of $10K each to the following recipients:

Getty Images Inclusion Scholarship: Women Photograph

  • Tshepiso Mabula ka Ndongeni: Tshepiso Mabula, a student at the University of the Witwatersrand, is a photographer and writer from the Lephalale district of Limpopo, South Africa. The 2018 recipient of the Tierney fellowship at the Market photo workshop, Tshepiso Mabula’s photography aims to address the issues affecting black working‑class people in South Africa.

Getty Images Inclusion Scholarship: National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ)

  • Angelica Edwards: a student at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, Angelica co‑founded the UNC’s NAHJ chapter and has recently begun an internship at The News & Observer, with the aim of embarking on a long‑term career in visual storytelling.

Getty Images Inclusion Scholarship: National Association of Black Journalists

  • Michael Blackshire: a post‑graduate student in photojournalism from Ohio University, Michael will be starting the second year of his programme in the autumn.

Getty Images Inclusion Scholarship: Asian American Journalists Association

  • Kylie Cooper: a student of Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, Kylie works as a photo editor at The Daily Pennsylvanian and as a freelance photographer covering news. “At Getty Images we are committed to supporting emerging photographers and fostering greater representation and inclusion within the visual media industry,” said Ken Mainardis, Senior Vice President for Content at Getty Images. “We are proud to work with our prestigious partners in offering a platform of support to these talented recipients and look forward to seeing them develop their flourishing careers in photojournalism.”

  • Timmy Huynh, Operations Manager and Photo Editor, The Wall Street Journal
